Doing Your Best: What Does It Really Mean?

By March 8, 2017 November 15th, 2018 No Comments

When people set out on a new venture or fail at something, one of the few common sentiments seem to be about doing your best. But what does trying your best really mean? At face value, it can mean that you did try your hardest, and put in your all towards something. Doing your best is indeed that, and so much more. There are a number of actions you should be focusing on when doing your best.

Put in a 100% Effort

Doing your best is trying your hardest, so putting in a 100% effort is imperative. Flaking out on putting in your all can mean the difference between success and failure, so to do your best is to put in all the effort possible into achieving your objectives.

Take Failure in Stride

When you do your best, you do it with the intention to succeed. However, it is very likely that you might fail. Failure can have a significant impact on our emotional well-being, but it is far more productive to take the failure in stride as a learning experience.

Remain Optimistic

Just as it’s important to not let failure set you back mentally and emotionally, it is important to remain optimistic as well. Without an optimistic attitude, pessimism can easily sneak its way into our thoughts. Negative ideas about the future can be highly damaging to the current efforts you are putting in, and can impede you in your struggle to do your best.

Don’t Give Up

The key to success can sometimes be a relentless pursuit of ambition, and not giving up on it no matter how many times life knocks you back. This ties in with giving all your effort and remaining optimistic – setbacks make it very easy to give up on a goal, but if you want to do your best you must look beyond the negativity and pursue your goal with eagerness.

Take Others’ Advice

Often times, doing your best means taking a bit of help to guide you along the path to success. Taking into account the experience of others can offer you a lot of insight that you may not have previously been privy to, and aid you in your journey towards your goal.
